AGWS in partnership with Heartbeat Victoria, the Heart Research Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital established the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in 2004. AGWS continues to coordinate and resource the rehabilitation program that has supported many Greek men and women who have experienced a heart condition.

The program is into its fifth year of operation providing a six week program that operates on a weekly basis at AGWS head office. The program is run every Thursday morning at AGWS head office and is a two part program including exercise with a physiotherapist and education sessions presented by various health and welfare professionals.

The program has also supported carers and other family members in helping them understand the implication of the illness and the rehabilitative process.

The program receives referrals from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, doctors and self referrals. Each participant is required to obtain authorisation from a health professional to take part in the program.

AGWS has recently established a new partnership with Uniting Aged Care to develop a Greek Cardiac program in Oakleigh. This program began in October 2008 and is modelled on the original program established at AGWS. The program is held at Moorfields Rehabilitation Program in Oakleigh and is held every Wednesday afternoon.

For further information and/or interest in registering for the program please call head office 9388 9998 and ask for the Greek Cardiac Program Coordinators.
